Melon-flavored everything

I grew up on a US Navy base in Japan, so I had access to all sorts of crazy delicious food there, and one thing I miss, is that you could find nearly anything in MELON FLAVOR. It's harder to find anything over here, but thank the universe for Asian grocery stores. We kinda live out in the country, so we have to travel an hour to Seattle to acquire all of our tasty Japanese snacks, but it's better than nothing, I guess! Did you know that they have all sorts of different flavored Kit-Kat in Japan? Melon, matcha, blueberry cheesecake, creme brulee, strawberry, pineapple, even wasabi!! Like, why not here in the states? haha. Why?! They're still super hard to find, even if you make the trek to a Japanese grocery store. Sometimes I'm tempted to buy a small box of them on amazon, haha, but they're like 25 bucks, and I can't really justify that.

Do you guys have a crazy sweet-tooth like me, or food that you just can't live without? I kind of wish I never made that little collage of sweets up above, because now I'm super hungry for Japanese junk food, haha. sigh.

My melon-inspired outfit:
OUTFIT DETAILS:
striped sweater: vintage
dress underneath: handmade (reconstructed from a top, my deerhoof shirt, and a slip!)
knee highs: I wish I could remember.
shoes: thrifted
brooch: handmade (lefty high five brooch)

  1. i was on a road trip once and found this jackfruit + guava vitamin water and fell in love. . . then i got home and couldn't find it anywhere. i thought about ordering it online but it was pretty expensive and i couldn't really justify it. i don't think they make it anymore either, but the desire to drink it is still there!

anyway, all your melon goodies look delicious! and i am really intrigued by all these flavored kit kats!

    1. jackfruit & guava vitamin water? yum! oh man, that's the worst when that happens though! when something tasty disappears. and now all you're left with are memories of the taste, but no way to satisfy the craving, haha. you know, it seems like some states carry things and others don't... like, thomas brand english muffins, the cinnamon raisin version... they sell them everywhere in california, but I haven't come across any in washington, and I've been actively searching for them! it's so strange. they used to sell it here, but not anymore.

actually, I just wrote them an email to ask them WHY, so I hope they write back, hahaha.

  2. I love the combination of colors you're wearing! They're giving me illustration inspirations.
That's so interesting that you grew up in Japan! Your childhood memories must be awesome.
I spend too much time browsing the aisles of asian grocery stores just looking at all the packaging. Sometimes they have the cutest cartoon characters on them or english words that just don't make sense!
My favorite bubble tea ( I think you guys call it boba in the U.S?) flavor is melon! Wishing I had one now...

    1. aw, thanks! what a compliment, to inspire illustrations with my color palette, heehee! I hope I get to see what you come up with!!! :) and, oh man, the packaging, I know! too cute. and the nonsensical english words are the best. I especially love it on Japanese stationery :) and, mm, bubble tea would be so good right now :) I think my favorite is matcha :)

  3. I love browsing the aisle of our local International Market, there are always some interesting things I want to take home with me. I will have to look out for these Kit Kats.

Great outfit. I'd love to see what the rest of the dress looks like.

    1. Yes! keep an eye out for those kit kats! They are elusive creatures, they are - but I hope you find some!! I think my brother scored some at a store in San Diego, so there's hope yet! haha. Unfortunately for me, San Diego is not in Washington :/

and thank you! maybe I'll post a picture of the dress underneath when it warms up! :) I must warn you though, it looks rather strange, haha :)

  4. Melon is easily one of my favourite fruits so I would also seriously appreciate more melon flavoured stuff! My friend went to Japan and brought me back some cheese flavoured kitkat - it was gross! any of the other flavours you mentioned would have been waaay better. Cute socks btw!

  5. Aw, I love your melon inspired outfit, so cute!! :) Yes, there are many foods I feel like I can't live without, and I am constantly battling my sweet tooth, haha! I LOVE peanut butter, dark chocolate (like 85%), bananas, avocados, and ooooo coconut milk ice cream :) It's so cool that there are all of those different flavored kit-kats in Japan, blueberry cheescake sounds sooo good! Weird random fact- my mom is American but her dad worked for the Army as a teacher and they lived on a base in Japan when she was little. She remembers this really pretty Japanese fan that she brought into Kindergarten there for show and tell :)
